Sensing in this loop starts where TMS workflows traditionally end. The platform watches outbound rate requests, mirrors them against a corridor baseline of historical accepted rates, and flags requests that fall below the lane floor or that sit too long without a counter as candidates for an automated negotiation run. The quiet part is the data plumbing — quote streams stay normalized so the negotiating layer does not see the carrier API quirks that normally slow a rate desk down.
Negotiating
The Negotiating step is where AI freight negotiation automation earns its name. A first quote is sent at a target rate derived from the corridor baseline, the carrier response is parsed and scored against that same baseline in under a second, and the platform either accepts the counter outright, sends a bounded counter of its own with a transparent ceiling, or escalates to the on-call planner with a short summary and the lane history attached. Every accepted counter writes back into the lane model so the next request on the same lane starts further ahead.
Self-healing
Self-healing closes the negotiation loop quietly. Every accepted and rejected counter is logged with the lane, the carrier, the reasons, and the time-to-resolution, and those outcomes update the corridor baseline, the counter ceilings, and the rejection thresholds that the Negotiating stage reads on its next run. Lanes that have produced five accepted counters in the past month do not need the planner at all; lanes that have produced five rejected counters in a week are escalated automatically with the full audit trail preserved for the next contract review.
